False Promises (Cosmic Bos Mix) - Andrew Hartshorn ft. Natalie Williams Calhoun, vocalled and remixed by Cosmic Bos
Taken from Cosmic Bos Virtual Normality 2
False Promises is originally a song on Andrew Hartshorn's album Movie House, which featured Natalie Williams Calhoun's sublime Cello playing. Cosmic Bos liked the song, so Andy wrote lyrics and a melody, recorded it with Nick, sent it to Andrew, and then Nick added Bass and Drums (and a couple of other things), and we called it a Bos Mix.
Video shot on a rainy day by Andy out of his front room window.
Available on all good internet platforms, you might even find it in the meta verse, but if you like bandcamp then we suggest this link right here
The Cosmic Bos Best of Season 4 podcast and album will be coming out tomorrow, or is already out depending on when you read this of course. Thank you for being part of our musical adventure this year, it's been wild.
Here is the Youtube playlist of all our Music Video's for 2022, with still a couple more to be added before the end of the year (the last 2 missing ones from 2 A.M, it's Mission Time)
This is the 10th video released from our album that we made in a month. This was also one of the first songs written, as it was an improv squared piece of music that we were already developing at the time the competition started. The lyric was born from some improvised silliness in the van on the way to a radio interview.
Please like, share and subscribe
And comment too, we love you
Also check out our youtube for plenty of other musical video stuff that doesn't come in podcast form
2 A.M, it's Mission Time was made as part of the Lights and Lines Album Writing Challenge from May 2022. Cosmic Bos submitted a 12 track album and were lucky enough to pick up a Judges Choice Award for their efforts.
The song that kicks the record off is Re:Mission, and it is about Cosmic Bos taking up the challenge, and pulling their socks up to get it done, Mission Time style.
Here are the lyrics :)
RE:MISSION - by Andy Jackson
We’ve got a world to save, it won’t save itself It’s mission time, put down the wine The only cause worth fighting for Nature calls we can’t ignore The ceilings glass but so’s the floor
Stop conserving superstitions Evolution in remission, switch position Mind expanding new decisions Hope can soon be in remission, it will be okay
Economic crisis looming from tiktok booming We stopped consuming Constant resourcing from dwindling sources Held together with glue from horses
Stop conserving superstitions Evolution in remission, quick petition Mind expanding fresh decisions Gia could soon be in remission, she will be okay But for us, it’s too soon to tell
We can choose between help or oh well The garden of Eden or the gates of Hell The myth is we’re powerless and under their spell But truth be told, we are bold, out of our shell
Stop preserving superstitions Evolution in remission, no commission Mind expansive clear decisions Love could well be in remission, new nutrition Stop in-sighting inquisitions Growth through learning, is our mission, best position Mind expanding not demanding Get your hand in, reply mission, oh yes we're in
...
Quite a fun one. Here's the Bandcamp link again in case you missed it further up.
In classic Bos style - I present to you the next instalment in the Making of an Album Special Presentation - Episode 4: Making an Album in a Month (Part 1) direct to you from our podcast feed.
Or the YouTube link if you prefer
Welcome to the 4th instalment in our special presentation 'Making of an Album', where Andy and Nick break down the details on music making in the 2020's, and how easy it is to do now. So far they have covered writing, and now they are going to skip over all the technical stuff and just make an album in a month for you over the next two episodes of this special presentation. There is good reason for this, Nick and Andy are creative musicians that know how to use recording equipment, they are not qualified to teach anyone anything about these things, so rather then blag it, they have focused on the process of making an album as an experience rather then the finer details of recording.
Cosmic Bos Making of an Album Episode 4: Making an Album in a Month (Part 1)
For the month of May 2022 Cosmic Bos took on the 'Album in a Month' challenge put on by Lights and Lines Independent record label, and subsequently produced a 12 track album called '2 A.M, it's Mission Time', which is out now
Wisely, throughout the album in a month process, Andy kept a diary of what was going on, and the Brothers filmed all of the recording session so that ample video footage of the album creation existed. You can see some of this already in the video's we put out for 'Isle of Avalon', 'Money Pwease' and 'Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't'.
This podcast represents the first half of both the album, and the diary kept for the month, and takes you through the first half of what we did. There will be an accompanying blog to this episode which will have more waffle about it should you wish to read more.
Part 2 coming next month.
Songs in this episode are :
Re:Mission
Catch a Clue
Bards for Hire
Isle of Avalon
Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't
Patient Mystery
All songs copyright Cosmic Bos 2022
So as promised, this blog contains the links mentioned in the episode, this is that blog, the one you are reading right this second right here right now I tell you what!
Here is F'in Lucky C' by Oxynucid & Vocalizer - still up on youtube even given its umm, questionable language. Not for the faint hearted.
As mentioned in the podcast, we wrote a song 'Step too Far' that is in the same ball park as this old Vocalizer song from back in the long long ago. We will get around to recording it at some point, but it is not priority on our list at the moment.
Also mentioned was my (Andy's) old band The Little Man, which is still out there in the internet, here is the Spotify link that was promised.
Next Month will be Episode 5, Part 2 of the Making an album in a month, but there will be plenty more Cosmic Bos shenanigans before that I can promise you.
Peace and infinite love
Cosmic Bos
You can find the album on bandcamp and other places, but bandcamp is good for us as artists because you can actually support us (unlike Spotify etc.)
The time has finally arrived, here is the album we made for the Lights and Lines Album in a Month competition - 2 A.M, it's Mission Time
Buy now on bandcamp.
Containing the 4 singles
Isle of Avalon - This was the song we submitted to the Singles playlist for public voting. It didn't win the vote but we are none the less proud of it. A deeply mature song from a couple of usual idiots.
Catch a Clue - Our first release once the results came in and we discovered we had picked up a Judges Choice Award. We had this one ready to go as soon as the results were in..
Money Pwease - the second official single (after Catch a Clue), this is my (Andy) personal favourite track on the album along with 'Quilt'. Based around spiritual scammers and the wonderful phrase 'Money Pweeeeeeeease' made famous by Jenny Slate on Parks and Recreation (Cosmic Bos LOVES Parks & Rec)
Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't - the last single we put out, featuring the amazing talents of Mr. Joe Philogene. This song is a philosophical exploration of rightness, and how we don't have it.
We wrote the whole album in a month, including another song that didn't even make it to the final list (we didn't record the vocal so it never stood a chance). A special two part podcast detailing our process and exploring the 12 tracks of the album coming super soon (well, part 1 is...). We also won a Judges Choice Award for the album, big thanks to Lights and Lines for putting on such a wonderful competition.
The album can be found on Youtube music right here in a handy playlist
And if you are a Spotify user, it's there too
Have a wonderful day, and don't forget to buy our album, like, share and subscribe to all our stuff, forever and ever, until the internet dies and we are all forced to return to conventional ways of interacting, like actually seeing each other (shudder).
