Welcome to the Best of Season 4 (2022) of the Cosmic Bos Music Podcast.
It's been a crazy fun year, full of competitions and compositions, challenges and sandwiches, and a breakdown of the music making process in the form of our Making of an Album special presentation.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy this meandering adventure through the year of 2022 with your musical guides, Cosmic Bos.

Thanks for all the support in 2022, we have lots more exciting adventures to come in '23, including big Andrew Hartshorn collabs, and the actual release of The O Door, the album we were making for our Making of an Album series. Plus we are going to launch a kinda competition, for songwriters and musicians, linked in with the lovely people of Music Weeklies. Roll on '23.
Here's the YouTube playlist of all our music videos for 2022.
And here's the Best of on YouTube too
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, we have a special Live album coming out 25th December, containing some acoustic renditions of songs from our year, including such smash hits as Isle of Avalon and Morning Coffee. It's a nice chilled acoustic romp, which you can enjoy with your animals.
Cosmic Bos (Andy & Nick Jackson) enlisted the talents of Joe Philogene to create this wonderful piece of music for the Album in a Month challenge put on by Lights And Lines Indie Label back in May 2022. It is the second piece Joe designed for us, and it is simply sublime, Joe plays the 12 string Ngoni forming the backbone of this transcendent piece. We love you Joe.
For the video we have simply overlaid some footage from our Wales holiday, and some home beach footage too, over the original videos of us making the song.
Andrew Hartshorn did an Orchestral version of this song, check it out and give him a listen
Quilt (Orchestral Version) by Andrew Hartshorn is the double A side to False Promises, which we did a bit of vocals on for Andrew. We have a Cosmic Bos remix of False Promises which will feature on our next EP (Virtual Normality 2) coming in November to ears near you.
Have a wonderful day being awesome, you got this
Peace and infinite love

I (Andy) like to take the first week of the year to reflect on the highs and lows of the previous, and ponder the things I wish to achieve in the upcoming. I find it very therapeutic and mindful, allowing the inputs that truly matter to me (my family and friends) to guide my thoughts towards realistic achievable goals.
For 2022 I want to do something a bit different. Cosmic Bos have completed 3 full seasons of improv music podcasting, so following the route of the farmers, we shall let the improvisation field have a year off, and instead we shall be focusing on making an album, a normal, what other bands do, album.
We have been planning this for a while, and the album already has a title 'The O Door'.
Last year, Nick and I made an EP, 'Virtual Normality', as a test to see if we could take on the task of an album on our own. It went pretty well, with several of our best songs of '21 being on it, including the sublime 'Ride Another Wave' (the closing track) which is about the night Theo was born.
Ride Another Wave is our Prologue to 'The O Door', which we will be working on across the whole of 2022, with our proposed release date being 1st January 2023.
What does this mean for Cosmic Bos Improv Music Podcast Season 4?
Well, it's going to be like a documentary kind of year, with us launching 'Making of an Album', an 8 part Podcast Documentary about how we make an album, charting the whole process from Writing to Recording, Production to Release. It should be a fun ride, with the Introduction episode coming February.
Still from Bos Live #1 (2021)
However, our first release for Season 4 will be Cosmic Bos Live 2021, an 8 track live recording that we did back in December '21.
Then we will launch into our Season long presentation Cosmic Bos: Making of an Album
Which will also nicely dovetail into the other thing we will be doing in 2022. We've opened up the side fields in my farmer metaphor, and started planting a new crop, which we are lovingly calling 'Improv²'
The first tracks from this new improv crop will be along with the first episode of our Making of an Album series, with a full special Improv² episode coming in April.
So as you can see, a big year planned for us at Cosmic Bos.
We here at Cosmic Bos have been busy recording an EP (coming very soon), as well as our next Improvisation podcast, so plenty of new material coming up in the near future.
In between this though, we have been having jams on the beach with Kalimbas.
Kalimba Beach Jam #1
Kalimba Beach Jam #2
Kalimba Beach Jam #3
It has been great fun playing the Kalimba, and it makes a big appearance in our next improvised album (which we've recorded already but not mixed yet, or worded up with wisdom).
Big thanks to Joe Philogene for being such a legend, he truly has made 2021 an exciting year of musical exploration and Cosmic Bos wouldn't be the same without him.
Coming Up next: An EP, some silliness in video form, and more.
You are looking lovely today, have you done something with your third eye?
Well, it's August now, and time for another couple of hours of improvised music with a sprinkling of wise words from 4 very powerful speakers.

On the 5th June 2021, Cosmic Bos met at a secret location to record the third in their fully improvised series, with a book full of pre-written lyrics and plenty of snacks. It was a wonderful afternoon of musical exploration, and here for your pleasure is the whole thing, including some of the intros and outros that usually get cut off, there is about 20 mins of it, that is not present on the album version.
The words of wisdoms for this episode where lovingly borrowed from YouTube, with Charlie Chaplin's speech being from the film The Great Dictator (1940) and available on youtube many times, with music accompanying it. Nelson Mandela's speech from his release from prison in 1990 also comes from youtube and shares far to many similarities to Chaplin's speech from 50 years before. Which leads us to Greta Thunberg from December 2019 addressing the UN on Climate Change, with echos of both Chaplin and Mandela.
So as not to feel too down and out about the state of the world and the people that patrol it, the final Words of Wisdom comes from Ram Dass, an ever reliable source of great wisdom. The full Ram Dass speech can be found on the Here and Now podcast, link to the specific episode right here.
The conclusion of the Sunrise Reflections comes in the form of 2 songs, the penultimate track being Clearly Designed, and the final song being Pinata of Troy.
Clearly Designed - Cosmic Bos Improvisation
Ngoni - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
After the deep thinking soul soothing antics of Ram Dass, it is time for the smokey wisdom of Cosmic Bos, with Joe using his Hunters Harp to hold the song together, Andy and Nick help build the tapestry. At the end of our musical/visual journey we are at our most burnt out, and beautiful colourful smoke carries our almost final musical opus away, the sun sets and the day is done, after the next one (Piñata of Troy).
The entire visual presentation is available on our YouTube page (please sub us, we Lub a good Sub)
Here are the lyrics which were written prior to the musical improv.
Clearly Designed - by Andy Jackson
Waiting out another cycle Too many layers to this trifle Clearly designed and built to shine But socially easy to stifle
Wear the honour like a hat There really is no shame in that Clearly designed and made to shine You’re the hipster coolest cat
Normally the normal me Would embrace all that I can see The signs are all designed clearly Proving this ain’t reality
Save your memories in a chest One day it will be all that’s left Clearly refined preserved design Testament to your dying breath
Normally the normal me Gets swept up in catastrophe Of late though I’ve designed clearly A proclaimed self sufficiency
Systems trotted out and barely tested Propping up the failed reinvested A clear design fault finally been bested Medal goes to third, the hairy chested
Normally the normal me Gets glitched out by bad latency On this occasion I’ll agree To check this was designed clearly
...
and finally...
Pinata of Troy - Cosmic Bos
The final track from Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections sees the sun setting on our adventure and the Pinata being gifted to Troy.
Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar and Synth - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
PIÑATA Of TROY - lyrics by Andy Jackson
Slow cooking up a cluster duck
Shredded, pancaked, out of luck
From pond to plate
Best not to wait
Or moral issues surface
Go Derek on the little things
Kindness floats on angel wings
From start to end
The great pretend
Will barely scratch the surface
Back end of the convoy
First to see the decoy
But treated like a chew toy
Piñata given to Troy
It’s animal to instinct
Not capable of deep think
But baby, bath and the sink
Don’t deserve discarding
It’s human to be lazy
It’s chaos wrapped in crazy
memory is some what hazy
Unless directed by Scorcese
Back end of the convoy
First to see the decoy
Treated like a chew toy
Pinata given to Troy
...
At the end we have our toy horse full of treats, ready to be given to someone who will hopefully enjoy it and get something positive from it, we are not enemies, but friends who haven't met yet, so here's a piñata. Our journey concludes.
What a journey it has been, from the early twinklings of Time is Now, through the ups and downs of Sunrises, Intentions, Bad Decisions, World Feelings worth staying for, wise wise Ram Dass, Being in the now, Now, reflecting, reflective...to the end, where the oversized Pinata is gifted to the enemy, so we may all be friends and solve this riddle of existence together, for together is always better.
The sun sets on this journey, the second of our fully improvised album releases, utilising the sunsets filmed after the session from our window, we close this book. But fear not, for the story is far from over, and Improvisation 3: Summadelica is already in the bag and itching to get out.
Sunrise Reflections was a truly wonderful project to work on, and Joe Philogene brought so much love, energy and talent to the core of this work which gave Nick and Andy such a rich space to explore musically, it was an honour.
Also Ram Dass, what can be said about Ram Dass?!
Mainly for what we were using him for it was rhythm, Ram Dass speaks with such flow and rhythm that combining his voice with our improvised music just worked so well, so well in fact that we used him for all of the improvised Words of Wisdom sections, as well as the song that bore his books title 'Be Here Now'.
Check out the Here and Now podcast to hear lots of awesome mind opening speeches by Ram Dass
Also check out our podcast for plenty of improvised musical shenanigans and visual funfoolery, we love you dearly and have something special to share with you, it's in our podcast somewhere, go have a look.
We came here for the fun, but stayed here for the feeling
Track 9 on Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections
Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar and Backing Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
Video by Nick and Andy Jackson
After a couple of sets of wise words from the almighty Ram Dass, Cosmic Bos come back to their musical roots and serve up a somewhat simple singer songwriter kinda song. With lyrics by Andy, the chaps came here for the fun, but stayed here for the feeling.
Stayed Here for the Feeling - Lyrics by Andy Jackson
Spread across the bed
While the mower’s in the shed
Gets dustier and rustier
Use paving stones instead
Lazy built an empire
And then slept through the day
Generations greatest gifts
Casually thrown away
But fun is what we came for
The feelings’ why we stayed
We’ll decimate the buffet
And likely misbehave
Yonder window sunset
Yesterday was better
Except for the pain we felt
So easy to forget her
Tomorrow could be easy
Or is that simply dreaming
Came here for the fun
But stayed here for the feeling
Today is all okay
This is time worth stealing
Came here for the fun
Stayed here for the feeling
...Thanks for listening/watching, we truly appreciate all your ears
Please like, share and subscribe, it means a lot
Also check out our podcast if you are so inclined.
After the Words of Wisdom 3 Ram Dass, the musical adventuring just didn't want to leave the wise guy alone, so for the next song, Ram Dass continues to dish out the tasty wisdom treats while the Bos chaps noodle away in a musical fashion.
Cosmic Bos improved the music, and they are:
Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar, Synth and Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
This song is track 8 in the Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections album, which is available from all good music streaming venues, please take your pick
This song is a direct follow on from Words of Wisdom 3, as the music began to swell a vocal called out 'Be Here Now', and the whirlwind swirled us all in, and Ram Dass had to stop talking so the music could take over, and that is how this song was born.
Here is our embedded podcast page from Spotify, please follow us till the end of time.
Be Here Now is one of Ram Dass's central thesis's, and truly a reflection of what we have been doing here at Cosmic Bos with our improvisation podcast project.
Ram Dass samples taken from Here and Now podcast, full episode link here
We have reached the words of wisdom part of this visual presentation, and for your enlightenment we present to you Ram Dass
Cosmic Bos presents Words of Wisdom 3: Ram Dass
Music improvised by Joe Philogene, Nick Jackson and Andy Jackson, this is an excerpt from Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections, it is track 7 and marks the start of the second section of the album.
Original Audio of Ram Dass taken from the Here and Now podcast
For lots and lots of Ram Dass wisdom you should check it out, it's an amazing website with lots of podcasts and collections of great talks by Ram Dass, well worth your time.
Track 6 of our Sunrise Reflections is the magical Feel the World
The 6th outing from Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections is the beautiful song Feel the World, accompanied by some stunning nature photography.
Percussion and Vocals - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar and Backing Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Backing Vocals - Andy Jackson
Feel the World - lyrics by Joe Philogene
One Heart,
One Soul,
One Mind
Feel the World
Utilising a selection of percussive instruments (including the spinny round the head wwoooooo making thing) Joe leads the chant to Mother Earth, and we spend some time in the relaxing forest making sweet fairy music for all of the wonders that surround us.
Cosmic Bos are big fans of the World, it's pretty neat, and we think that it deserves more attention, some more songs about it, especially after all it's done for us. We are somewhat ungrateful children to the Earth, and it really is time we tidied our room before the threat of no dinner becomes an actuality.
Spend time outside, go and feel the world in your lungs, let the bird song enrich your soul, let the breeze tickle your senses, and remember that we are all part of the same thing, we are all in this together (cough, Mr Bezos!).
Please subscribe to our channel and ding the bell for updates
We also have a podcast where the improvised musical adventure takes place every month.
The fifth track from Improv 2 finds us back with a set of lyrics to contemplate existence and some trippy visuals to sooth the eyes.
Percussions - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar and Backing Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
Intentionally - lyrics by Andy Jackson
Intentionally slowing down
Potentially turn this frown
Upside down and inside out
See what this is all about
Trickery came thick at me
Distorted all reality
But truth wins eventually
Tunnelling through intentionally
Intentionally freaking out
Sucking juice from seeds of doubt
Drafting up the backless gown
Mooning the entire town
Trickery comes down the line
Causing shifts in fickle time
But truth will win the vintage wine
Intentionally solving the crime
Intentionally, Potentially, Intentionally
On a simple chord sequence, the Bos chaps present a haunting tale of intentions, facing the trickery that we face daily, not being afraid to stand up for ourselves, be questioning, don't just accept apathy, be present in the moment so you can live your life with intention, intentionally.
Joe beats the frame drums to the rhythm of our souls, while Nick wails the woes with the electric and Andy teaches his acoustic a lesson in strumming. Fun stuff indeed. This song, like all the previous songs in this presentation has begun it's journey as an improvisation, come up with there and then, with the pre-written lyrics serving as a guide for some thoughtful rhymes and vibes, when the lyrics are left to also be improvised they tend to lean towards the silly side of the spectrum rather then the profound.
The full episode and album are available.

The fourth song from Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections, and the next instalment in our audio/visual presentation.
Ngoni and Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar, Synth and Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
The lyrics for this song were improvised on the spot, just like the rest of the song. There was a collection of jars sat behind Nick on a shelf, they acted as the launching point for the lyrical wonder that is 'Apparently'.
We decided on a colourful moving image palette to go with this song, and sunflowers. Hopefully a visual feast for your eyes while the music is a treat for your ears. Imagine the smell of beautiful flowers to complete the sensory experience (we are not yet capable of releasing the smell version of our jams)
For the full improv session visit our podcast site and download the 2 hour meditative improvised musical experience. The full version features some wonderful words of wisdom by Ram Dass, it's embedded right below these very words in fact.
This is the title track from Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2: Sunrise Reflections, and the third song in this audio/visual presentation.
Ngoni and Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar, Synth and Backing Vocals - Nick Jackson Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
Sunrise Reflections lyrics by Andy Jackson
Nothing beats a sunrise
Party up a surprise
Cameras are our new eyes
Ones that never use lies
Changing of perspective
Replace what’s now defective
Of life we be protective
Let’s avalanche collective
Together we have powers
To topple ancient towers
To overthrow in hours
The corner dwelling cowards
But best just to avoid it
Let them sleep in their own shit
We’ll come in for a refit
Once this old horse has bolted
All the steps we’ve counted
And failures we’ve dismounted
Why was it ever doubted?
Nature just gets rerouted
Humans are just a blip
Missing one obvious trick
Harmony with Mother Nature
Doesn’t require legislature
What we take we must replace
There can’t be losers in this race
It’s every planet, species, life form
Winning all the time we’ll reform
A dream that we can wake to
A dream that we can wake to
...
Reflecting on the world near the start of the day can be a healthy way to approach the challenges that the hours are likely to bring your way. Always remember the clouds are there to bring colour and flair to the sky.
Joe leads with a beautiful Ngoni rhythm, which Nick and Andy meander around.
For the visuals we searched for sunrises and epic skylines from around the world, and then over-layed it on us playing.
Please check out our podcast for full sessions of improvised music for meditation and mental ruminations. https://cosmicbos.libsyn.com

Wow, not sure we made such good decisions there...
Cover for the full album

Acoustic Guitar and Vocals - Andy Jackson
Video by Nick Jackson and Andy Jackson
Lyrics - Bad Decisions by Andy Jackson
The teacher is having a breakdown
Technology dulled all the skills
Always on a digital playground
Hormones regulated by pills
It’s just a ba,ba,ba,ba,ba,ba,ba
Mosaic by Abi Jackson
Bad decisions,
It’s a ba,ba,ba,ba,ba,ba,ba
Bad decisions
It’s a natural disaster in progress
Slowly robotising us all
We’re more like an app on an tablet
Rather then a brick in a wall
CHORUS
Actions reduced to just pixels
Emotions switched out for a meme
All the thumbs up on a status
Seduced by the notes on the screen
CHORUS
The doctor is having a break now, she’s been on her feet for a week
While pompous pricks go on a pow-wow, Continue the causing the bleak
CHORUS
- So there you have it, the first full step into the great wide musical world of Cosmic Bos, the sun has risen and we are exploring what there is to offer out in the great wide world.
Joe provides an awesome Ngoni rhythm for Nick and Andy to noodle over, and reflecting on the times in which we now live, the teachers and doctors are given the spotlight for a moment, let's hope we listen to them and don't just go and do some stupid nonsense instead...
Drones galore in this one, coming out of buildings, zooming through forests, over beaches and towns, while the Bos crew try and make semblance out of the chaos gifted us by the World.

Cosmic Bos Improvisation 2 : Sunrise Reflections
We start at the beginning, as everything must, the Time is Now
Cover for Improvisation 2
Sunrise is such a wonderful time of the day,
Time is Now - Cosmic Bos Improvisation
Percussion - Joe Philogene
Electric Guitar & Vocals - Nick Jackson
Acoustic, Synth & Vocals - Andy Jackson
When we begin one of our improvised journeys we have to set the levels of the microphones and things, you know, technical stuff, but the music starts before we can sort out all that. This song is us testing out the recording levels, and it came out alright, so it opens this journey.
Letting the music decide the course of the journey is exciting, and utilising a little bit of editing trickery, we have been able to project sunrises all around us. So our journey begins with Sunrise, the time is now, and our journey will be full of reflections of this opening moment, it's time to come get lost with Cosmic Bos.
Our music makes good meditation music, or just general chilling out, it's relaxing not taxing, thank you for taking the time to explore these awesome creative realms with us, sharing and commenting helps spread the peace and rhythm, we do this for the music.
Check out the full playlist of our improvised musical musings right here courtesy of YouTube (it's this little video site, you might of heard of it)

Also comment, let's get a discussion going over the topics that Wilson was discussing all those years ago, and how relevant they still are to this day.
Also big plug for Prometheus Rising, the book RAW talks about early on in the piece. It's an amazing book and well worth your time.
Church of the subgenus, Praise Bob! Hail Eris!
Beware the Fnords, they are everywhere
#Wordsofwisdom #RobertAntonWilson #CosmicBos
We hope that our musical fusion with these words of wisdom help to make some of the ideas more palatable to the mind, when you stimulate multiple parts of the brain at the same time you can have some truly astounding effects, building new neural pathways and strengthening your ability to think.
So be wise and watch the whole thing, it may have a profound effect.
Here we present to you an idea that has been banging around for quite a while now, an improvised musical journey with a wise speaker over the top, and where better to start such an idea then with the one and only Terence McKenna.
So for your wisdom today, Cosmic Bos Improvisation presents
Words of Wisdom 1: Terence McKenna and Mark Pesce
Terence McKenna ladies and gentlemen, what a legend.
The Terence and Mark sample is taken from an awesome podcast called the Psychedelic Salon, which has been around for a long time, putting out amazing talks by some brilliant and insightful minds.
Humanity stands at a pivotal point in history, the now moment is changing so rapidly that it appears impossible to have a grasp on reality, we have all been hoodwinked and are stumbling around dazed and confused, but not to worry, for clarity comes once dust settles and calm befalls us all, for the storm can not rage forever, and hate eventually gets tired and goes to sleep for a bit.
Thank you for spending some of your time with us here at the Cosmic Blog, you are wonderful and great things will happen for you, so go get it Tiger (I am obviously assuming that the main audience base for this blog is large cat based, skewing towards Lions, Tigers, Panthers etc. as well as domesticated felines of course, this is for the cats).
Please follow us on all the things, youtube is good, it has that subscribe button and handy bell thing too!
We here at @Cosmic Bos started a new project very recently, we did a test/pilot from which two videos surfaced (Perplexed and Ride the Waves)
and then went straight to series, because we don't wait around for anyone to tell us what to do, we're our own bos!
Joe Philogene on Ngoni and Percussion
Nick Jackson on Electric Guitar
Andy Jackson on Acoustic Guitar and Vocals
The lyric was made up on the spot
it's just...
Pennies, line the jar
Pennies, travelled from afar
Can, can we, accept trouble in ?! (not sure)
Currency
Currently
Is losing it's meaning, it's losing it's meaning
...
and that's it, it's like a low grade version of Money by Pink Floyd, with less cash registers and far less lyrics.
