Album Writing Club 2023 - Hartshorn, Jackson, Jackson and Warren - Sound Investments

 Hello prospective client,

Andy Jackson here, from Hartshorn, Jackson, Jackson and Warren, I am one of the partners in this musical business that was set up for the #AlbumWritingClub 2023 and I am head of the vocal/lyrics and promotional department of HJJ&W

For your consideration, I present to you 'Playing Office' by Hartshorn, Jackson, Jackson and Warren

This song is one of the 11 tracks on the album 'Sound Investments' that HJJ&W submitted to the albumwritingclub competition.

This is the second year that Lights and Lines record label have run this wonderful competition, last year the partners of HJJ&W had taken part in the comp separately, as Andrew Hartshorn, Cosmic Bos (the Jackson brothers) and ASeaWarren (Al Warren), developing friendships through discussions around the competition, working together in different capacities before joining forces to tackle Album Writing Club Year 2.

Here is the full playlist of entrants to the singles competition part of the album competition.

You can vote for your 3 favourites here VOTING FORM (pick your top 3)

Anyway, back to the business at hand, the musical business of Hartshorn, Jackson, Jackson and Warren.

Headed up by the CEO of Monochrome Motif Records, Mr. Andrew Hartshorn is the first name in our musical business, we call him the Big Dog, mainly because he's the oldest not because he's particularly dog like in any sense of the word. Hartshorn runs a tight ship, having at the beginning of 2023 assembled his labels artists and affiliates to produce the epic Poseidon's Realm under the name the Monochrome Assembly.

Purchase the album from this embedded link to band camp, and enjoy the video to the song 'It's Between Me and the Sea' from the very album. It features Andrew Hartshorn and the two Jacksons of HJJ&W.

This rather smoothly moves us on to the aforementioned Jackson brothers, Cosmic Bos.

The hosts of the Monthly Music Challenge (MMC), Cosmic Bos love to make music, lots of it, in loads of genres and styles, and then make videos for some of them, if not all of them.

Cosmic Bos operate a DIY approach and have to date managed to rack up quite a discography of musical experimentation. Working directly with Andrew Hartshorn since last years competition, Cosmic Bos have developed a close working bond with Monochrome Motif. With Andrew Hartshorn taking part in the MMC and Bos being part of the Monochrome Assembly along with...

The Warren part of HJJ&W, Mr. Al Warren, ASeaWarren, musical guru and all round legend of the soundscapes, working with Hartshorn on his debut Orchestral Suite and becoming a New and Notable on Bandcamp with it (awesome work Al). Al was also a key member of the Monochrome Assembly.

Al (as we are officially allowed to call Mr. Warren) is also a participant in the MMC, and once word had got out that Mike 5 was running Album Writing Club again in 2023, it didn't take long for the 4 partners to combine their unique musical skills and form Hartshorn, Jackson, Jackson and Warren

Further details about HJJ&W will be made available to the public in due course.

Thank you for your time, please consider following us on Soundcloud whilst we build our profile and prepare to take this business venture public. https://soundcloud.com/hartshorn-jackson-jackson-warren profile

Kind Regards

Andy Jackson partner in HJJ&W

Cosmic Bos End of Year Blog 2022 (with a video for 'Closed to the Public' enclosed)

 Hello dear friends,

To close out 2022, we present to you Closed to the Public

This is the closing track on our Judges Choice Award Winning Album, and the last of our videos to be released for our 2022 slate.

The song is about the secrets that are kept hidden by the state, the land that is private and the control systems that refuse to share their knowledge with the general population, and it also references Lord of the Rings because we happen to like Lord of the Rings.

All our music videos from 2022 can be found in our podcast feed, or in this handy playlist on YouTube

It has been a fantastic year for Cosmic Bos, even though we failed to achieve our primary objective (which was to make The O Door), we advanced our musical status no end, releasing our Improv Squared concept to the world (the world still isn't ready, hence the lack of response), making an Album in a Month for the Album Writing Club (see 2 A.M, it's Mission Time for details), collaborating on Orchestral tracks and doing the groundwork for 2023's big challenge as displayed in our EP Virtual Normality 2.

We have done our Outergalactic shoutouts for the year, on twitter, so here are screenshots of those tweets.

And finally, we got a tweet from Dan Wilson himself about our cover of his amazing song Dancing on the Moon.

Here is the song, it was on our Bos Live #2 Album we put out on Christmas Day

Happy New Year - Let's see what 2023 has in store shall we!

Peace and infinite love

Stop Saying 1984 to Make a Point (Official Music Video) by Cosmic Bos

 Hello lovely friends,

With the '22 ending imminently, it seemed only fitting to do a little cleaning out the hard drive ready for a fresh year of music and videos, which revealed a couple of music video's that had managed to skip their release windows and hide out in the hard drive. So, I present to you the first of the two missing music video's from our Judges Choice Award Winning Album - 2 A.M, It's Mission Time

Stop Saying 1984 to Make a Point

Nick and I (Andy) made music video's to go with every song from the album, when we were recording the actual record, we put camera in our faces to capture the process and give ourselves the option to make music videos for 10 out of the 12 tracks on the album. We had to make proper music videos for 'Catch a Clue' and 'Patient Mystery' as they had not been constructed musically using our special Improv Squared technique.

We felt this was the weakest song on the record, which is why it got skipped over in favour of the next video on the release schedule. It's not a bad song, but it's a bit barebones and could do with a bit more musical muscle, which ironically makes the song much like the protagonist of the book 1984.

Still, it made the album final tracklist, and sits proudly alongside it's musical brothers and sister on 2 A.M.

Here's the Youtube version should you prefer it

Coming tomorrow will be 'Closed to the Public', the final song from the album, along with a roundup of the year blog, Thanks for coming on this adventure with us, we love you very much.

Peace and infinite love

Quilt - Cosmic Bos (Official Music Video) from 2 A.M, it's Mission Time

 Happy day my friend,

Welcome to a nice relaxing music video offering from Cosmic Bos, featuring the phenomenal talents of Mr Joe Philogene.

Quilt - Cosmic Bos

From the Judges Choice Award Winning Album - 2 A.M, it's Mission Time

Cosmic Bos 2 A.M, it's Mission Time on Bandcamp - buy on bandcamp, support us little indie musicians

Cosmic Bos (Andy & Nick Jackson) enlisted the talents of Joe Philogene to create this wonderful piece of music for the Album in a Month challenge put on by Lights And Lines Indie Label back in May 2022. It is the second piece Joe designed for us, and it is simply sublime, Joe plays the 12 string Ngoni forming the backbone of this transcendent piece. We love you Joe.

For the video we have simply overlaid some footage from our Wales holiday, and some home beach footage too, over the original videos of us making the song.

Please like, share and subscribe @Cosmic Bos

Andrew Hartshorn did an Orchestral version of this song, check it out and give him a listen

Quilt (Orchestral Version) by Andrew Hartshorn is the double A side to False Promises, which we did a bit of vocals on for Andrew. We have a Cosmic Bos remix of False Promises which will feature on our next EP (Virtual Normality 2) coming in November to ears near you.

Have a wonderful day being awesome, you got this

False Promises\Quilt - Andrew Hartshorn & Cosmic Bos Double A Side (ft. nwcalhoun & Joe Philogene)

 Happy day person,

Thanks for stopping by this little blog, where I (Andy Jackson) am happy to share with you this amazing Double A Side single Collaboration with the amazing Andrew Hartshorn.

You can purchase both songs right here right now on the bandcamp link.

False Promises is originally from Andrew Hartshorn's Album Writing Club album Movie House and features Natalie Calhoun on Cello (she was also a member of the Album Writing Club).

It is a wonderful record, full of sweeping cinematic pieces which were all constructed in a month. I wrote the lyric for False Promises and sent Andrew my idea, he gave me permission to record it, so I went away and wrote something better which I proceeded to record (with Nick's help) and send off for mixing. Nick and I have kept a version of it to tinker on and False Promises (Cosmic Bos Remix) will be included on our next release.

As for Quilt, well, I shall blog about that in more depth tomorrow when we release the video for it.

We asked Andrew Hartshorn if he would do an orchestral version of Quilt, and he did, and it's amazing.

Here is the YouTube link, go subscribe to Andrew Hartshorn to hear all his wonderful music.

Quilt is from our Album Writing Club album - 2 A.M, it's Mission Time. It is one of the two tracks that feature the phenomenal talents of Mr. Joe Philogene on the 12 string Ngoni, and it's a love song about wanting to be in bed with your significant other, not for sexy reasons, just for being together safely reasons.

You can also purchase that album from bandcamp. (it picked up a Judges Choice Award)

Also, also, we released Virtual Normality EP, to bandcamp, it was from last year, but it felt prudent to put it on the old camp.

So that's lots to spend your money on that isn't gas or electricity.

Quilt video coming tomorrow, new EP - Virtual Normality 2 coming next month hopefully, and a full collaboration album with Andrew Hartshorn coming early next year. We also have the bones of a documentary which we are hopeful to have with you by early next year too.

Happy musical day my friend, love ya.

Peace and infinite love

Andy (from Cosmic Bos)

Re:Mission - Cosmic Bos (Official Music Video)

 Hello friends,

So the album came out a week ago, have you had a listen?

Well, here's the video to go with the opening track Re:Mission, to hopefully entice you further in to the world of Bos. Direct Podcast Link

The opening track to Cosmic Bos 2 A.M, it's Mission Time

Written and recorded by Andy & Nick Jackson

Available to buy on bandcamp https://cosmicbos.bandcamp.com/album/2-a-m-its-mission-time

2 A.M, it's Mission Time was made as part of the Lights and Lines Album Writing Challenge from May 2022. Cosmic Bos submitted a 12 track album and were lucky enough to pick up a Judges Choice Award for their efforts.

The song that kicks the record off is Re:Mission, and it is about Cosmic Bos taking up the challenge, and pulling their socks up to get it done, Mission Time style.

Here are the lyrics :)

RE:MISSION - by Andy Jackson

We’ve got a world to save, it won’t save itself
It’s mission time, put down the wine
The only cause worth fighting for
Nature calls we can’t ignore
The ceilings glass but so’s the floor

Stop conserving superstitions
Evolution in remission, switch position
Mind expanding new decisions
Hope can soon be in remission, it will be okay
https://cosmicbos.libsyn.com
But I’m not promising anything

Economic crisis looming from tiktok booming
We stopped consuming
Constant resourcing from dwindling sources
Held together with glue from horses

Stop conserving superstitions
Evolution in remission, quick petition
Mind expanding fresh decisions
Gia could soon be in remission, she will be okay
But for us, it’s too soon to tell

We can choose between help or oh well
The garden of Eden or the gates of Hell
The myth is we’re powerless and under their spell
But truth be told, we are bold, out of our shell

Stop preserving superstitions
Evolution in remission, no commission
Mind expansive clear decisions
Love could well be in remission, new nutrition
Stop in-sighting inquisitions
Growth through learning, is our mission, best position
Mind expanding not demanding
Get your hand in, reply mission, oh yes we're in

...

Quite a fun one. Here's the Bandcamp link again in case you missed it further up.

Cosmic Bos Music Podcast presents - Making of an Album Episode 4: Making an Album in a Month (Part 1of2)

 Oh friends,

In classic Bos style - I present to you the next instalment in the Making of an Album Special Presentation - Episode 4: Making an Album in a Month (Part 1) direct to you from our podcast feed.

Or the YouTube link if you prefer

Welcome to the 4th instalment in our special presentation 'Making of an Album', where Andy and Nick break down the details on music making in the 2020's, and how easy it is to do now. So far they have covered writing, and now they are going to skip over all the technical stuff and just make an album in a month for you over the next two episodes of this special presentation. There is good reason for this, Nick and Andy are creative musicians that know how to use recording equipment, they are not qualified to teach anyone anything about these things, so rather then blag it, they have focused on the process of making an album as an experience rather then the finer details of recording.

Cosmic Bos Making of an Album Episode 4: Making an Album in a Month (Part 1)

For the month of May 2022 Cosmic Bos took on the 'Album in a Month' challenge put on by Lights and Lines Independent record label, and subsequently produced a 12 track album called '2 A.M, it's Mission Time', which is out now

https://cosmicbos.bandcamp.com/album/2-a-m-its-mission-time

Wisely, throughout the album in a month process, Andy kept a diary of what was going on, and the Brothers filmed all of the recording session so that ample video footage of the album creation existed. You can see some of this already in the video's we put out for 'Isle of Avalon', 'Money Pwease' and 'Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't'.

This podcast represents the first half of both the album, and the diary kept for the month, and takes you through the first half of what we did. There will be an accompanying blog to this episode which will have more waffle about it should you wish to read more.

Part 2 coming next month.

Songs in this episode are :

  1. Re:Mission
  2. Catch a Clue
  3. Bards for Hire
  4. Isle of Avalon
  5. Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't
  6. Patient Mystery

All songs copyright Cosmic Bos 2022

So as promised, this blog contains the links mentioned in the episode, this is that blog, the one you are reading right this second right here right now I tell you what!

Here is F'in Lucky C' by Oxynucid & Vocalizer - still up on youtube even given its umm, questionable language. Not for the faint hearted.

As mentioned in the podcast, we wrote a song 'Step too Far' that is in the same ball park as this old Vocalizer song from back in the long long ago. We will get around to recording it at some point, but it is not priority on our list at the moment.

Also mentioned was my (Andy's) old band The Little Man, which is still out there in the internet, here is the Spotify link that was promised.

TheLittleManSpotifyLink

Next Month will be Episode 5, Part 2 of the Making an album in a month, but there will be plenty more Cosmic Bos shenanigans before that I can promise you.

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos

You can find the album on bandcamp and other places, but bandcamp is good for us as artists because you can actually support us (unlike Spotify etc.)

Cosmic Bos - 2 A.M, it's Mission Time - OUT NOW! Come pick up your copy on bandcamp

 Hello friends,

The time has finally arrived, here is the album we made for the Lights and Lines Album in a Month competition - 2 A.M, it's Mission Time

Buy now on bandcamp.

Containing the 4 singles

Isle of Avalon - This was the song we submitted to the Singles playlist for public voting. It didn't win the vote but we are none the less proud of it. A deeply mature song from a couple of usual idiots.

Catch a Clue - Our first release once the results came in and we discovered we had picked up a Judges Choice Award. We had this one ready to go as soon as the results were in..

Money Pwease - the second official single (after Catch a Clue), this is my (Andy) personal favourite track on the album along with 'Quilt'. Based around spiritual scammers and the wonderful phrase 'Money Pweeeeeeeease' made famous by Jenny Slate on Parks and Recreation (Cosmic Bos LOVES Parks & Rec)

Whatever You Say It Is, It Isn't - the last single we put out, featuring the amazing talents of Mr. Joe Philogene. This song is a philosophical exploration of rightness, and how we don't have it.

We wrote the whole album in a month, including another song that didn't even make it to the final list (we didn't record the vocal so it never stood a chance). A special two part podcast detailing our process and exploring the 12 tracks of the album coming super soon (well, part 1 is...). We also won a Judges Choice Award for the album, big thanks to Lights and Lines for putting on such a wonderful competition.

The album can be found on Youtube music right here in a handy playlist

And if you are a Spotify user, it's there too

Have a wonderful day, and don't forget to buy our album, like, share and subscribe to all our stuff, forever and ever, until the internet dies and we are all forced to return to conventional ways of interacting, like actually seeing each other (shudder).

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos

Cosmic Bos pick up a Judges Choice Award in the Album Writing Club competition

 Hello lovely you,

So good news, we (Cosmic Bos) won a Judges Choice award in the Album Writing Club challenge put on by Lights and Lines record label.

We are chuffed to bits, and it's been so enlightening to connect in with so many other fantastic musicians, and we hope to get to work with many of them in the future. Thanks so much Lights and Lines for putting the whole thing on.

Anyway, as we didn't pick up the top 'Record Contract' prize, we are left to our own devises to release this album we made in a month.

And as we were in the middle of doing our Making of an Album podcast special, we are going to return to it, using this new album we done as the subject of the final parts of it.

So in August we are going to release the album '2 A.M, it's Mission Time' in full, on bandcamp and Spotify and youtube and everywhere else. With Episode 4 of Making of an Album being based around the diary I (Andy) kept during the month of May. In September we will aim for Episode 5 of MoaA to be the one about releasing an album, but that's ages away so we won't worry about that too much.

Here is the video we made for Isle of Avalon, the song we submitted to the singles playlist, a little taster of our album.

Thanks for all the support, we truly appreciate it

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos

P.S - Here's Catch a Clue single link too

Isle of Avalon - Cosmic Bos (Official Music Video) - PLUS 'My Little Dragon Girl' by MikeyJ won the Singles Competition

 Friends! July!

It's here, and so is the video for Isle of Avalon

Direct from our podcast feed no less, it can also be found on all good social media outlets, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/c/CosmicBos

Big Congratulations to MikeyJ for winning the public vote with 'My Little Dragon Girl' - wonderful song indeed. Take a listen.

Isle of Avalon was our single submission to the Lights and Lines Album Writing Competition Singles playlist, our album is 12 tracks and we can't wait to share it with you.

We have recorded a video for our proper single 'Catch a Clue', which will be with you mid July. It's very 80's inspired which is keeping with our collective current nostalgia gazing.

Anyway, Isle of Avalon is track 4 on '2 A.M, it's Mission Time' and we chose it as our single submission because it represents the themes of the album better than any other individual track. Our theme was Glastonbury Tor and the surrounding area, with its rich history and spiritual connections, and the worlds most beloved music festival on its doorstep, it seemed a fitting place to theme an album on.

Nick and Andy sitting in the park

While staying at the base of the Tor in an AirB&B, was when I (Andy) had seen the post by Lights&Lines about the 'Album in a Month' Challenge. I took lots of video footage while there, we were at a Medieval festival at Glastonbury Abbey, and I refrained from posting it so that it could be used for the artwork and visual theme of our album. The cover is from the sunrise mission I went on (it wasn't at 2AM though).

It's going to be a busy old July on the Cosmic Bos front, we have a blockage in the pipeline and music is busting to get out and into your earholes.

We will podcast this month, it won't be Making of an Album Episode 4, we have currently shelved that while we refocus. We have been discussing shifting the MoaA thing to being about the album we just made in a month, we have plenty of footage and a diary of events so will easily be able to get a solid 'Recording an Album' episode. But that won't be till August at the earliest, until then, July will be filled with 'Catch a Clue' single release, some 'Live' Streaming, and TikTok shenanigans in the form of our new 'Filter Songs' series. Hopefully some live gigs will materialise in the upcoming months too, we remain ever hopeful.

Nick and Andy under a lovely Willow
Thanks for being here now, you have made my day by reading these words, and in exchange I grant you a magical power boost of luck and wisdom, go out and do good.

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos

P.S - Here is the YouTube link to the video, should you prefer your videos not in podcast form.

The Album Writing Club Challenge - Singles playlist available now

 Hello friends,

So May was quite an intense month for Cosmic Bos, we took on the Lights and Lines Make an Album in a month challenge, meaning we had to put our 'Making of an Album' on hold, to make an album, hmm...

I kept a diary to go along with the month, and this will see the light of day soon, possibly in podcast form, possibly as a special download with the album, not sure exactly yet. Until then though, I thought it only appropriate to bring you up to speed with the competition.

So the playlist of artists that made it to the finish line is available on Soundcloud, I have embedded it here for your listening convenience.

Have a listen to all these amazing songs, and then vote for your favourite here forms.gle/PgQ5RxDrTGmzsVis6

The whole competition was arranged by Lights and Lines, a musical collective record label that have been doing their thing for not even a year and have released lots of material from a handful of specifically
selected bands and artists, run by Mike 5, who we know as part of the New Music Saturday Duo (along with Dr. Bones).

Find out more about this competition on their website       https://www.headlightsandwhitelines.com

We can't really talk much about our entry at the moment, once the results are out we will be more forthcoming with information, but until then, there is not much we can say.

Our entry in the Singles playlist is 'Isle of Avalon', and it is about the history of Glastonbury Tor and the surrounding area, known as the isle of Avalon (hence the title), and our album entry is '2 A.M, it's Mission Time'.

It is currently parading in front of the judges as well as the other 27 submissions. It was an absolute blast to be part of this competition and we can't wait to share our speedily constructed album with you, we are pretty proud of it and think you will hopefully all enjoy it too.

Have a wonderful week

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos Album in a Month challenge - a side quest we have embarked on

 Hello friends,

Update, sorry we have been so quiet on the blog front this month, after releasing our last Making of an Album episode we have embarked on a little Side Quest, to make an album in a month for the LightsandLines record label challenge.

We have been busy, putting all our spare time into the making of this album in a month, with just over a week left until submission date, we have the last bits of mixing and mastering to do.

I (Andy) have been keeping a diary to go along with the making of this album in a month, and it will see the light of day in the future, probably when the album gets released, or it might form the backbone of a podcast that Nick and I will do for June. So June, was originally going to be the 4th part of our Making of an Album series, but we do not have time to put that together in that sense, so we have put it on the back burner for a while while we deal with this new May album.

Expect a single track from this album we are making to surface on the 1st June, we haven't decided which track we are putting forward for that yet, so stay tuned for that.

Okay, back to work, got an album to finish.

Also, Bandcamp is a thing, and you can get our latest things on there right now!

You can still listen to all our old episodes, please leave us comments and give us ratings on podcasting apps, it helps a bunch.

And what do ya know, it's a playlist of our improv squared videos on youTube! lovely

Peace and infinite love

Cosmic Bos
